Chapter one � Gold can glitter but it can�t sing
The day was July 27Th in the year of the Lord 1862.

He walked over to his horse, who was still standing in exactly the same place, as where he had dropped the reins an hours or so before. He instantly gave Blue a gentle pat and started pulling all the packs and gear off of his back. Blue was still loaded with the supplies from his overnight trip to Clinton. �Sorry old boy� he said as he finally pulled the tack off and slipped the leather halter on. He piled the packs and grub on the porch not wanting to go back inside to put them away and then walked Blue down to the watering hole for a well-deserved drink and himself a quick wash up. Blue took his fill of clean water and then wasted no time putting his head down munching on the lush green grass beside the small creek. Blue was hungry and so was he, maybe he should make them all something to eat, he thought. He glanced back to the porch where his new grub was piled. The big Indian was comfortably sitting on the one and only chair on the porch.
