Chapter one Gold can glitter but it cant sing
The day was July 27Th in the year of the Lord 1862.
.....
Fort Yale was an adventure the second time as much as it was the first. After a couple of days at the Fort he couldnt wait to get out of there, he did meet up with a group travelling north, three families and half a dozen single men like himself, better then travelling alone, or so he thought at the time. But fate would teach him that there were worse things, then travelling alone. It was the very first night on the trail, when all hell had broken loose. How everything can change in the blink of an eye, he thought to himself as he gently laid the unconscious girl on a soft patch of moss. He wanted to wrap her up in a blanket now that they were far enough away from the carnage. She was alive but barely. He untied his bed roll from the back of the saddle and laid it out on the ground beside her. Then he placed her in the middle and folded over the sides of the heavy woollen blanket as carefully as he could. Then he picked up the neat bundle again in his arms and continued to carry her on down the trail to the cabin as quickly as he could.
