The day was July 27Th in the year of the Lord 1862.

One step in front of the other, he told himself. His horse kept looking over his shoulder at the unconscious girl, snorting in his ear. Ya, I know Blue, she stinks he said. If she was in better shape, he could lay her over his horses back, but he didn't want to chance it, besides, he kind-a liked holding her close to his chest at least he could feel if she was still breathing. He had not a clue as to what exactly happened to her. What he did know was that he was the only chance she had to surviving. He picked a well-worn cattle track, as they headed on down, mindful of his and his horses foot prints. God why me he said quietly to Blue.
