Chapter one – Gold can glitter but it can’t sing
The day was July 27Th in the year of the Lord 1862.

The widow was selling all the water soaked gear and horse off at whatever she could get before taking her only daughter back on a stage to the place they had come from. Twenty bucks, was all he paid for the lot. His Horse Blue didn't look so good back then, thin and sickly from one too many trips up north to the gold fields. Not to mention having to swim half way across the river to get out after the barge overturned with the two screaming ladies hanging on to his tail for dear life. After he saw what the horse did to save his charges he figured it was a good deal for him and it helped the women out with the few extra bucks. He thought he could get the big bay horse back to good heal...
Barbara St. Jean was born in Maple Ridge, BC. At the age of four she was introduced to Belle Morse from the Maple Ridge Merry Makers and her career in the arts was started. Over the next 26 years she studied dance and acting, and performed in hundreds of well known theatre productions throughout the province. Many of her performances have been televised and are still shown today. In 1980 Barbara opened her own dance studio in Mission, BC and shortly after, received her accreditation in choreography. She graduated from university in 1989 with a degree in Business and Economic Management. Her love of the arts continued to grow and expanded into drawing, sculpting and painting in the early 80’s.
