Chapter one – Gold can glitter but it can’t sing
The day was July 27Th in the year of the Lord 1862.

The Indian horses were given a hand signal and went directly over to grazing in the meadow alongside Blue. Blue looked over at him and then back to the painted horses, then finally put his head down and started eating again but he could tell Blue was watching his new grazing partners closely. The Indian wasn't finished with him and had him start to dig up roots from a small bush that grew on the edge of the tree line. He went for his pick axe and that tool most certainly made an impression; he was definitely building some kind of mutual trust between the big guy and himself as they worked alongside one another for the better part of an hour. It was when they were pulling out particularly hard tangled root mass that one of the mammoth Jack rabbits from the area darted out of the brush in front of them. He didn't have time to blink before the big rabbit laid dead with the Indian’s knife sticking out of its side. He looked at the big man and grinned, thinking to himself, shit man he’s fast with that knife, I’d better just stay on his good side. The Indian didn't smile back but rather walked over and picked the rabbit up by its ears and then set it down on one of the large log rounds by the fire pit.
