After an inspection of the girls lifeless body the women looked right at him and said in not so good English; “hot water make”. He nodded and set about fetching the pot of water off the fire. That was not enough for the women, so off to the creek he went as the big Indian watched. She wanted lots of hot water. Four big buckets full to be exact. Soon there were bundles of herbs and roots soaking in the different pots and bowls. He watched as some of the medicines she had with her were ground into a paste as others made into poultices. The smell was intoxication, but it was better than what it smelled like before. The Medicine Women had turned down the blankets exposing the girl’s naked form. He didn't know what else to do so he just stood and stared at the girl’s cuts and angry looking bruises and then he noticed the blood stains between her legs. His stomach starting to turn and the bile was working its way up again. Gulping for air he turned his eyes away. The Medicine women said something to her chaperon that he couldn't understand, and then the big Indian took his arm and led him outside into the fresh night air. He took deep breaths, relieved at the chance to escape from the cabin. He tried not to think about what he had just seen.
