Chapter one – Gold can glitter but it can’t sing
The day was July 27Th in the year of the Lord 1862.
.....
When the weather was nice and the spring rains had stopped he decided it was time to get a move on. It felt like just yesterday, when he had packed up camp and rode Blue back into the overcrowded town of Fort Yale. He needed more grub and to see if he could find a group of others that were heading north as well. His friends had long since left without him. The gold dust lust was shining in their eyes and he didn’t blame them for not wanting to stick around while he doctored up an old horse. The truth was, he just wasn’t in that much of a hurry to go north, it had taken him two years to get to Canada, what the hell was an extra month, besides the journey was just as important as the destination, his uncle told him, to which he truly believed.
