Chapter one – Gold can glitter but it can’t sing
The day was July 27Th in the year of the Lord 1862.

The cabin was quiet except for the sizzling of the deer stew; he doctored the girl again and sat down to eat a bowl full of hot oats with a little fresh cream. The cream was a real treat, something he couldn't resist buying regardless of the high price he paid for it. He was just licking the last of the cream off his spoon, when a blood curdling scream pierced through the air. He went straight up, damn nearly hit his head on the beam above the table and when he came down he was on his knees beside the bed. The girl’s eyes were still shut, but beads of sweat and tears were running down her face. Her arms and legs jerked about under the blankets as if she was fighting so...
Barbara St. Jean was born in Maple Ridge, BC. At the age of four she was introduced to Belle Morse from the Maple Ridge Merry Makers and her career in the arts was started. Over the next 26 years she studied dance and acting, and performed in hundreds of well known theatre productions throughout the province. Many of her performances have been televised and are still shown today. In 1980 Barbara opened her own dance studio in Mission, BC and shortly after, received her accreditation in choreography. She graduated from university in 1989 with a degree in Business and Economic Management. Her love of the arts continued to grow and expanded into drawing, sculpting and painting in the early 80’s.
