The day was July 27Th in the year of the Lord 1862.

He cleared his throat and replied; “I’ve come to ask the help of your Medicine women, there was a bad stage accident and I brought a hurt girl back to my cabin”. He looked at the Chief’s unchanging face and thought to himself, What the hell was I thinking, coming here after dark, looking for a Medicine women, who belongs to a tribe of white men killing Indians, crazy the Chief called him crazy, Ya; he was feeling crazy that was for sure. After the Chief stared at him for what seem like an eternity, the Chief finally said; “Why you want to help this girl, you do not know her, would it not be easier for you if she were to die”. Barbara St. Jean was born in Maple Ridge, BC. At the age of four she was introduced to Belle Morse from the Maple Ridge Merry Makers and her career in the arts was started. Over the next 26 years she studied dance and acting, and performed in hundreds of well known theatre productions throughout the province. Many of her performances have been televised and are still shown today. In 1980 Barbara opened her own dance studio in Mission, BC and shortly after, received her accreditation in choreography. She graduated from university in 1989 with a degree in Business and Economic Management. Her love of the arts continued to grow and expanded into drawing, sculpting and painting in the early 80’s.
